How are you? I hope you guys are always happy and healthy.

As you know I'm Nayla Zafira and today's topic is about announcements.

Today I will tell you the definition, purpose, generic structure, language features, and of course the example of an announcement.

☆ Definition ☆

First of all we must know what is an announcement, so an announcement is a written or spoken statement in public or formal words containing information about an event that has happened or is going to happen so publicly people know what, when, and where is about. 

☆ Purpose ☆

The purpose of an announcement is for giving people information about what has happened or what will happen.

☆ Generic Structure ☆

In the announcement text, there are four aspects of the structure of the text that must be known. The text structure of the announcement text includes :

1. Stating purpose, the text that contains what event will be held.
2. Stating day and date, (day and date realization) the text that contains when the event will be held.
3. Stating place, the text that contains where the event will be held.
4. Informing sender, the text that contains the name of the person who will be contained.

☆ language Features ☆

There are two language features that need to be considered in the announcement text, including:

1. Using simple present tense and simple future tense, for example = The event will be held on May 26th, 2021.
2. Using exact nouns, for example = All students of SMAN 27 Jakarta

☆ Announcement Example ☆

Attention!

To all twelve grade students of SMAN 27 Jakarta to attend additional lessons that will be started on June 12th until June 24th, 2021. For those who have not enrolled are expected to fill the registration form in the school office. All students are required to take it to be successful in the final exam.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Soekarno Hatta Airport. Local time is 3.15 p.m. and the temperature is 31 Celsius.

For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign. This will indicate that we have parked at the gate and that it is safe for you to move about. (Depending on the airline's policy/local laws: At this time, you may use your cellular phones if you wish./Cellular phones may only be used once the Fasten Seat Belt sign has been turned off.)

Please check around your seat for any personal belongings you may have brought on board with you and please use caution when opening the overhead bins, as heavy articles may have shifted around during the flight.

If you require deplaning assistance, please remain in your seat until all other passengers have deplaned. One of our crew members will then be pleased to assist you.

On behalf of Garuda Airlines and the entire crew, I'd like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we are looking forward to seeing you on board again in the near future. Have a nice day!”

a. What is the announcement about?

= The announcement is about information for all the passengers on the Garuda Airlines airplane that they have arrived and the airplane is about to land.

b. Who might be interested in reading this announcement?

= Everyone (all passengers) on the Garuda Airlines airplane who wants to go to Soekarno Hatta Airport.

c. What is the purpose of publishing the announcement?

= The purpose is to inform all the Garuda Airlines passengers to follow the flight attendant instructions while the airplane is about to land.

d. What will happen after the announcement is published?

= After the announcement is published all the Garuda Airlines passengers are following the flight attendant instructions that have been announced.
