For today's topic, we gonna discuss about Simple past and Present Perfect

Simple Past Definition
The simple past is a verb tense that is used to talk about things that happened or existed before now.

Simple Past Purposes
The simple past tense is usually used to talk about :
♥ An action that began and ended at a particular time in the past.
Example: He walked home yesterday.
♥ An action that occurred over a period of time but was completed in the past.
Example: My father was a doctor 5 years ago
♥ An activity that took place regularly in the past.
Example: When I was nine years old, I took a Math course there.

Simple Past Formula
♥ For noun sentence (using was/were) :
(+) Subject + was / were + non verb
Example: She was in Bandung two days ago.
(-) Subject + was / were + not + non-Verb
Example: They were not doing the homework yesterday.
(?) was / were + not + Subject + non-Verb + ?
Example: Was your mother at home when  your father called?
♥ For verb sentence (using verb 1 or verb 2) :
(+) Subject + Verb 2 + Complement
Example: He cried last night.
(-) Subject + Didn’t + Verb 1 + Complement
Example: I didn’t enjoy the show yesterday.
(?) Did + Subject + Verb 1 + Complement + ?
ExampleDid you fix my car last week?

Present Perfect Definition 
A present perfect tense is a form of a verb that is used to express an action or situation that has started in the past and is still continuing until now or has been completed at a certain point in time in the past but the effect is still ongoing.

Present Perfect Purpose
The present perfect tense is usually used to talk about :
✿ An action that happened at an unspecified time
ExampleI have bought a new novel.
✿ An action that has recently occurred
Example: He has just been to Makassar.
✿ An action that began in the past and continues up to the present
Example: I have lived in Malang for twenty years.
✿ An action that happened repeatedly before now
Example: Maria has been there for several times.

Present Perfect Formula
(+) Subject + has / have + Verb-3 + Complement
Example: The students have finished their examination
(-) Subject + hasn’t / haven’t + Verb-3 + Complement
Example: They haven’t come here yet
(?) Has / Have + Subject + Verb-3 + Complement
Example: Have you cleaned your room?
Me and my friends that well known as group 1 made this PowerPoint for you guys to understand more about simple past tense and present perfect tense. 

Task 1 : Rewrite the following sentences by using Simple Past Tense.
1. My Mom wrote a letter to Aunt Tina in Japan just now.
2. Halimah gave me some stationery as my birthday present this morning.
3. The children sang together in the choir competition last Sunday.
4. My dad and I climbed Papandayan Mount together three months ago.
5. Niken fell from her bike yesterday evening.
6. Riana didn't receive the announcement last week.
7. The students didn't read the text to discuss yesterday morning.
8. Mr. Joni didn't teach Math here last year.
9. Did he speak politely to his elder brother just now?
10. Did the girls dance beautifully on the main stage last night?

Task 2: Rewrite the following sentences by using Present Perfect Tense
1. I have swept the floor. Look, it’s clean.
2. The students have gone to Bali before.
3. She has arrived before the bell rang.
4. Himawan has written three English books since last year.
5. We haven't eaten apples from Malang, we do want to try.
6. The applicant hasn't submitted his CV and photos.
7. The film hasn't started yet.
8. Have you been to Paris before?
9. Have the students finished their test?
10. Has mother cooked for our dinner?


So the conclusion is the present perfect usually used when the action started in the past and is still continuing until now and the simple past is usually used for an action that happened at a certain time in the past and is not continuing anymore.
